Greyt News of the Week - 3/27/08
ADOPTIONS AND FOSTERING

We have nine lucky hounds with new homes this week! Congratulations to Stinger, Falcon, Sassy, Simmons, Bambi, Steffi, Adam, Ollie and Ringo. It is a blessing that we have so many wonderful foster families, adoption coordinators and families welcoming these sweet greys into their homes.

On the fostering front, we currently have 19 hounds in foster care.

We are always in need of other loving foster families!

As you all know, CGA brings dogs into our program when they retire. When they come in, they go to a wonderful foster home that gives them their first experience as a pet. We assign dogs to available foster homes every week. The problem is, if there aren't any foster homes available that week for a dog with certain characteristics, the dog must sit and wait until there is a home available. By this point, they aren't racing anymore, so all they have to do is just sit and wait. Sometimes another group will meet a few of the dogs and have places for them. That's a good option! We are, however, the largest of the Colorado groups, and if we don't have room, it's likely there isn't enough room with the other groups either. Where we are today is that we simply don't have enough foster homes without cats, but we have lots of dogs waiting that aren't cat-friendly. They are wonderful in every other way...they just adhere to their instinct regarding small furry things more than their cat-friendly counterparts. SOME OF THESE DOGS HAVE BEEN WAITING FOR UP TO 9 MONTHS for a foster home. Please click
on this link http://www.greyhoundadoption.com/kenneldogs and allow us to introduce you to these
wonderful dogs. If you don't have a cat, and would be willing to open your home to one of these darling hounds, please do so!! If you have fostered before, please contact your Foster Rep. If you are a new foster, please contact Beth Morgan at This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it . (We also have cat-friendly dogs waiting for those of you with cats! ) How can you resist those big brown eyes???? Take a look! Thank you!!

We also need foster homes for some brood moms that are coming into the program.

The first step to bringing in retired racers from the kennels is having an available foster family to teach them the important
lessons about enjoying life in a home and becoming cherished members of a family! If you know anyone who would enjoy fostering greyhounds, please have them contact Beth Morgan, CGA's foster set-up coordinator, at bethmorgan57@ fastmail. fm or you may access plenty of greyt information about fostering from the CGA website at:
www.coloradogreyhoundadoption.org/content/view/120/122/. With so many greys waiting to begin their lives as pad potatoes and learn important life lessons, we can use every volunteer's help in recruiting their friends, family, co-workers, etc. to become foster families.

UPCOMING EVENTS

The Colorado Pet Expo will be April 19th and 20th. It will be held at the Denver Merchandise Mart. We are booth 105. The hours are Sat 9am to 7pm.Sun 10am to 5 pm.

And don't forget about greyhound bowling!

It's time again! Our 6th Annual Extreme Bowling for Greyhounds will be on Sunday, March 30, 2008. Check-in will start at 11:15, and the bowling will start at noon

VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITY

Foster Recruitment Coordinator

It is a known fact that the number of dogs CGA brings into the program is limited to the number of foster homes available. CGA is always looking to recruit new foster families, and even contact old foster families, to see if they would consider fostering again.

If you have some new ideas on how to recruit foster families, and can work with a team of volunteers, then this position might be just the thing for you!! Perhaps you were a foster family, and you failed fostering and adopted your last foster. If you can't continue to foster, but would still love to volunteer, then contact us! We would love to have you on our recruitment team. No one can express just how rewarding it is to foster a greyhound unless you have experienced it yourself! So why not tell others just how rewarding it is and help even more of these majestic hounds prepare for their forever homes!

Foster Recruitment Team Coordinator

Overview: CGA is looking for a couple individuals to coordinate activities with a team of volunteers to recruit fosters.

Duties:

* Work with a team of volunteers to come up with new ways to promote the CGA foster program.
* Talk with interested foster volunteers and forward their contact information to the Foster Set-Up Coordinator.
* Coordinate ads in the newspaper and community magazines.

Skills Required:

* Strong organizational skills
* Strong communication skills
* Computer literate
* E-mail, including e-mail attachments

Equipment Required:

* This position requires the volunteer to have their own computer with internet and e-mail access.
* Telephone

Time Commitment:

Time required varies based on the need for foster families. CGA is limited on the number of dogs it can bring into the program solely based on the number of foster families. Others who have performed this function indicate an average of approximately 5-10 hours per week.

If interested in this position, please contact me at couchpups@comcast. net.

THANK YOU!!!

CGA Volunteer Coordinator

That's it for this week. Love your hounds! Also, if people wouldn't mind lighting a candle or saying a prayer for my grandma,
she is on a long road to recovery from heart issues.
